TUTORIAL · MUUN
How to accept Bitcoin with Muun.
A step-by-step guide to accepting Bitcoin payments with Muun — a non-custodial Lightning wallet with simple setup and solid backup options.
Muun is a non-custodial Lightning wallet — meaning you own your Bitcoin, not Muun. It’s slightly more involved than Wallet of Satoshi but offers more sovereignty. A good step up once you’re comfortable with the basics.
Creating an invoice
To accept a payment, generate an invoice by tapping Receive and setting an amount. Here’s how:

- Make sure “Lightning” is selected at the top — not on-chain.
- You can toggle between sats and your local currency when entering the amount.
- The customer scans the QR code to pay.
- You can also copy the address (the long string starting with lnbc1u1p5wm…) and send it to the customer if they can’t scan the QR code.
Viewing paid invoices
Once a payment is received you can view your transaction history from the home screen.

Backing up your wallet — email
Until you back up, any Bitcoin in the wallet will be lost if you delete the app or your phone breaks. Do this now.

Your wallet and Bitcoin are now linked to your email. Done!
Backing up your wallet — recovery code
As a second backup method, Muun lets you generate a recovery code — a series of 32 letters and numbers you write down manually. This is your ultimate safety net.

The app will then ask you to re-enter the code to verify you wrote it down correctly. Once confirmed, your wallet has a second layer of backup protection.
Recovering your wallet
If you reinstall Muun or get a new phone, choose “Restore Wallet” when you first open the app.

- Enter your email and Muun will send a verification link.
- Switch to your email app, verify, then switch back to Muun. You’ll need your password to complete recovery.
- If you don’t remember your password, use your recovery code instead — it will send a verification email and ask you to set a new PIN.
Securing your bitcoin
Muun is non-custodial which is a step up from Wallet of Satoshi — you own your keys. But it’s still a hot wallet connected to the internet. Here’s what to do as your balance grows.
Generate a receiving address from your cold storage wallet (Coldcard or Trezor), copy it, then tap “Send” in Muun to transfer your accumulated balance. Don’t let significant funds sit in a hot wallet.
