How to accept Bitcoin with Wallet of Satoshi.

A step-by-step guide to setting up Wallet of Satoshi and accepting your first Bitcoin payment. No technical knowledge required.

Best for beginners
Lightning payments
Wallet of Satoshi is the easiest way to start accepting Bitcoin. It’s not the most advanced option, but it gets you accepting payments in minutes with zero technical setup. Perfect for farmer’s markets, pop-up shops, and anyone trying Bitcoin payments for the first time.

Creating an invoice

To accept a payment, you generate an invoice — a QR code your customer scans to send the exact amount. Here’s how:

Open the app and tap “Receive”
Wallet of Satoshi home screen
Fill in the invoice

Empty invoice, tap “Amount / Note”

💡
Tips:
  • Make sure the top of the screen says “Lightning” not “Bitcoin On-Chain.”
  • Tap the Lightning bolt icon to switch to Lightning.
  • You can set the price in sats or your local currency. Switch between the two with the arrows button.
Have customer scan the QR code

You can copy the Lightning URL and send it to the customer if they can’t scan the QR code. It’s a long alphanumerical string starting with “lnbc1”.
If you want to be able to accept bitcoin when you’re not at your business, write down the address located below the QR code on the Receive screen (xxxxxx@walletofsatoshi.com).
💡
Tips: The QR code is dynamic and is regenerated for every new invoice. Once the invoice is paid, the QR code will be invalid. To accept payments without a phone, write down the address in the red box above. This is your wallet’s address and the customer can send bitcoin to it even if your phone is off.

Receiving a payment

Once the customer scans and pays, here’s what you’ll see:

⚠️
Important: It is vital to back up your wallet! While the bitcoin is safe inside, if you do not back up your wallet, and you need to re-install the app, your bitcoin will be gone forever. It is impossible to get it back, there is no customer support.

Backing up your wallet — custodial mode

If your app shows a red “Login / Register” button at the bottom of the side menu, you’re in custodial mode. Follow these steps to back up your funds.

⚠️
Important: Until you back up, any Bitcoin in the wallet will be lost if you delete the app or your phone breaks. Back up now.

Backing up your wallet — self-custodial mode

If your app shows a pair of keys and says “Self Custody Wallet” at the bottom of the side menu, follow these steps instead.

⚠️
Important: Until you back up, any Bitcoin in the wallet will be lost if you delete the app or your phone breaks. Back up now.
Tap “Backup Your Wallet”
Tap “Backup Your Wallet”
Choose Google Drive Backup or Manual (seed phrase)
Choose your backup method
Manual: write down 12 words in order
Google Drive: upload, recommended to encrypt
Success!
⚠️
Important: Your 12-word seed phrase must be written down in order! Store your seed phrase someplace physical; not a screenshot, not in your email, not on your computer.

Recovering your wallet

If you need to reinstall Wallet of Satoshi or get a new phone, here’s how to restore your wallet and funds.

Choose “Restore Wallet” when opening the app

Securing your bitcoin

Wallet of Satoshi is a great starting point but it has limitations. Here’s what to know and what to do next.

⚠️
Important: Wallet of Satoshi is a hot wallet — it’s connected to the internet and not designed for long-term storage of significant funds. As your Bitcoin balance grows, you should move it to cold storage.

Transfer to cold storage

To fully secure your Bitcoin, withdraw it from Wallet of Satoshi and transfer it to a cold storage wallet like a Coldcard or Trezor. Generate a receiving address from your cold storage wallet, copy it, then tap “Send” in Wallet of Satoshi.
